Understanding a dataset

Here are three things that you can do to help better understand the dataset you are using:
  1. Read the information that is provided on the dataset and the published paper cited at the bottom of the dataset webpage. The citation is frequently linked to the article’s download page. If the link does not work, Google the article or look for it on your university or college research library database.
  2. Read articles that other researchers who have used the datasets wrote and published. These can be found by searching for the dataset by name.
  3. If you still have questions about the dataset, reach out a member of the researcher team who worked on the project. Frequently, they have moved on to other projects and organizations and are no longer with the Institute.
  4. Some of the datasets have a video that helps explain either how they were created or how they were used.  If there is a video, then a link will be included on the dataset's webpage.
